and Early historic periods

Ancient Kimi

There is ample evidence that there were inhabitants in Evia during the whole of the Stone Age, when stone was used for making tools and weapons. There is also evidence from archaeological finds that Evia had Stone Age and densely populated during the Late Stone Age. In many parts of Evia, some important findings from the Early Stone Age have been excavated, and also settlements from the Late Stone Age. There have been important findings in Istiaia, Kirinthos, Pcachna, Amarinthos, Artaki and Karistos.

Other archaeological find give evidence that Evia was populated during the Bronze Age when bronze was used for making weapons, tools and objects for everyday use. In Vasiliko we have important findings which date from the First Greek Period and at Manika in Chalkida a large Greek town has been excavated. Remains from the Middle - Greek period can be found in Manika, Oreous and Aliveri. Finally interesting tombs which date from the Late Grecian Period of Mikinaikis period have been excavated in areas around Chalkida and Mikinaiki settlements have been found in various other places.
